Dear Parents,

Welcome to The International School of Milan Blog! I hope that you will find all of the information that you require here, but if not, please feel free to leave a message and any questions that you may have.

As you are aware, Physical Education is an integral part of the Middle Years Programme and as such, your child’s physical education lessons are designed to meet the Aims and Objectives of the programme. As this is a five year programme, the expectations increase as your child moves higher up the school and they will increasingly work with more responsibility for their own learning as they get older. With this in mind, the ISM physical education programme has been designed to try to teach the children the necessary skills in the earlier years of the programme and to develop their understanding of the subject.

The students will be involved in a wide range of activities through the years, as an attempt to cover different aspects of physical education as well as meeting the requirements of the programme set out by the IB.

PE KIT

Your child has been given a complete set of PE Kit as in previous years. Please can you ensure that they have their kit with them on the days that they have their PE lessons. Any form of ISM kit is fine, not just the new version from this academic year.

Journals

During some sessions, your child will need to do small amounts of writing, so a small exercise book is required for all students. This is used to help the students to remember special information as well as cementing certain ideas in sport.

Activities (not all activities are done by all year groups)

Softball, Football, Dance, Basketball, Health Related Fitness, Rugby, Volleyball, World Games (Grade 9), Gymnastics, Athletics, Striking Fielding games, Team Games, Hockey, National Sports, Squash (Grades 10 & 11)

Physical education is practical in nature, but there are also times when your child may be officiating or observing their peers. With this in mind, please ensure that your child will participate all of the time, as even when injured, they can become a valuable participant during the lesson.

If there is anything that you would like to discuss with me, please either leave a message on the blog, contact me through email or make an appointment to see me at the school office.

Thank You,

Andy Parlby
